The Italian Case

The Italian case aims to promote smart and sustainable mobility in the city of Palermo which, despite its relatively small size, is estimated to be the 28th most congested urban area in Europe and the 56th in the world.

To this end, relevant stakeholders from the public sector and the local administration, together with actors from local businesses and civil society, will work together to structure an Urban Mobility Plan with the view to complement the already existing one at municipal level, designing new cycling paths and pedestrian areas that address the different components of urban sustainability  (environment, economy, society).

In fact, the implementation of the local case will contribute to the reduction of car traffic, greenhouse gases emissions and noise pollution, while promoting the local economy and healthier lifestyles among citizens of all ages.
